Every week I visit Truus and we draw together.

“And there she was, Truus de Beijer’s mother. In soft pencil lines, she appeared on a sheet of a sketchbook. Artist Wolf Mulder saw it happen. He asked her if she wouldn’t draw her mother, but she found that difficult because her mother had been her best friend. Perhaps she was afraid of not getting her mother right on paper. Mulder: ‘And five minutes later you said: there she comes.’

Since January, Bertie has been my client, and together we embark on a fascinating photographic journey within the walls of his home. Our collaborative process involves creating photographs that meticulously document the various objects Bertie has collected, each image serving as a visual record of his personal history and taste. Beyond mere documentation, our work delves into the rich narratives and personal stories that lie behind the art and artifacts Bertie has carefully curated over time.
